Sciences Po
The Global Master's in Development Practice (MDP) is a two-year program offered through the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, more commonly known as Sciences Po. The program focuses on two themes—environmental and health issues. The MDP program draws on the expertise of Sciences Po's research centers and of PSIA's dynamic faculty in particular. For field training, students spend two sessions, each three months' long, at sites in North Africa, West Africa, or the Indian Ocean region.
PSIA, established in 2010, is a bilingual (French–English) and guarantees one full course in English, for students with no prior training in French on their arrival in Paris. With approximately 850 students from 80 countries, it is one of the largest schools of international affairs in Europe.
Sciences Po, established in 1872, is dedicated to political science and economics but also a broader range of fields within the social sciences, including business and finance, law, journalism, and media and communications. The enrollment of international students across the various schools at Sciences Po is notably high. It offers dual degrees with graduate schools at several universities worldwide, including the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia.
Students in the MDP program at Sciences Po participate in two field-training sessions of three months each involved in institutions and development projects. Each group of six to ten students is accompanied by one or two supporting faculty members or tutors at sites in in North Africa, West Africa, and the Indian Ocean. They work with partner institutions such as University 2iE (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso), EGE (Rabat, Morocco), and IRA (Tunisia) and with Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), which is associated with Sciences Po.
