BRAC Development Institute, BRAC University

BRAC Development Institute (BDI) of BRAC University offers a full-time, cross-disciplinary program leading to the Masters in Development Management and Practice (MDMP). Funding from the MacArthur Foundation allows BDI to merge its existing curriculum with the resources of the Global MDP Network so as to forge an integrated, interdisciplinary course of study. The MDMP at BRAC U is a 18 month program of 60 credits. On completion of coursework, students complete a one-semester internship before receiving their degree.

BDI was created in July 2008 to promote training and research in the development of practical measures toward the sustainable alleviation of poverty in the Global South. At BDI, academics and practitioners come together to incubate ideas, collaborate on exciting initiatives, and disseminate best practices.

As a unit of BRAC University, BDI is uniquely positioned to interact with management and technical staff in the development sector as well as with poor households participating in a myriad of BRAC development programs in, for example, education, health care, and financial services. Given the unique development laboratory that is Bangladesh, with its range of successfully scaled-up development interventions (in, for example, schooling, health care, family planning, and microfinance), and given the four decades of in-house experience at BRAC, the MDMP program at BDI is well poised to offer training and certification that will become a globally recognized brand.
